Janka Hardness Scale: What Is It?
The hardness of any particular hardwood is measured, industry wide, by a scale called the Janka Hardness Scale. The hardness of any particular wood is measuredf by the force necessary to embed a .444 inch steel ball into the wood by half its diameter.
This test is one of the accurate indicators of how well a species will withstand regular foot traffic, denting and wear and tear.
